Guilty, she is!

A female icon with the words guilty, she is inscripted on her

She says ‘no’
But society blames her
For dressing inappropriately
And leading him on

She says ‘yes’
But society blames her
For hoeing around
And spreading her legs for every man

She says ‘no’
But society blames her
For denying her partner
What rightfully belongs to him

She says ‘yes’
But society blames her
For having bad morals
And being unusually lewd

She says ‘no’
But society blames her
For being a prude
And being holier than thou

She says ‘yes’
But society blames her
For seducing him
And corrupting a young man’s innocence

In a system that is prejudiced against women,
No matter what she says,
Society’s verdict remains,
Guilty, she is!

    • Hi Abimbola, this is an interesting perspective. I agree with part of what you have said, but I would say that these attitudes are as a result of social constructs rather than natural phenomena. In other words, society has constructed unreasonable standards which unfairly affect both men and women in different ways. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!
