2020 has been an uncomfortable year, to say the least. The global coronavirus pandemic, incidents of racism in the US, incidents of gender-based violence in Nigeria, and the recent Beirut explosion are just some of the many examples that have made this year particularly difficult.
It’s quite disappointing how this year has turned out, given that so much hope was put on 2020. For example, Nigeria had Vision 20:2020. In the run-up to the new year, many people proclaimed with hope, “2020 is my year!” Then coronavirus came, and the rest as they say is history. This just goes to show how unpredictable life is. We can plan as much as we want, but no one can predict the future.
When I recently listened again to Kirk Franklin’s “My World Needs You” and Tasha Cobbs’ “We Need a Move”, I really felt the power in those lyrics. I think that these songs are more relevant now than ever, and I’m really glad that I rediscovered them and decided to do a live cover.
You can watch the video below or on YouTube (scroll down to view the lyrics). Credits go to Promise Chime (on the instrumentals), Kolaay (audio production), Roi (video recording), and Uviboy (video direction).
In everything, the mere fact that we are alive and healthy today is enough reason to be thankful. I really hope that as you read the lyrics below, you are able to connect with them as much as I did.
Show me your face
Fill up this space
My world needs you right now
My world needs you right nowI can’t escape being afraid
Fill me with you right now
My world needs you right nowPower fall down
Bring with it a sound
That points us to you right now
Erase substitutes right nowFix what I see
And God please fix me
My world needs you right now
Let us see you right nowShow me your face
Fill up this space
My world needs you right now
My world needs you right nowWe are here for you
Come and do what you do
We are here for you
Come and do what you do
Set our hearts on you
Come and do what you do
We need a move (4x)Mountains are still being moved
Strongholds are still being loosed
God we believe it, yes we can see it
That wonders are still what you doBodies are still being raised
Giants are still being slain
God we believe it, yes we can see it
That wonders are still what you doWe are here for you
Come and do what you do
We are here for you
Come and do what you do
Set our hearts on you
Come and do what you do
We need a move (4x)
I leave you with Psalm 46:10-11, which reminds us to “be still” for God is with us.
