“No Stain” is the sixth and final track on #ProblemsTheEP by me and Uviboy. It is a song of affirmation about integrity and anti-corruption in our land.
This song was inspired by the following lines from the former Nigerian national anthem:
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace or battle honoured
And this we count as gain
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain
This anthem was in use from 1960-78. The country was far from perfect then, but at least it seemed to be a whole lot better than it is today. Rising levels of corruption and impunity have led to the deterioration of virtually every section of the country, from politics to the economy and even the society.
And corruption in Nigeria is not limited to our leaders. Many of us would have heard of ‘Nigerian scam’, ‘419’, ‘Yahoo Yahoo’, or some variation of these terms that indicate internet fraud in Nigeria.
This song calls on us to reclaim those words from the former anthem by maintaining integrity and shunning corruption. We must remove the stain from our flag and from our land.
